High Oxidized LDL (OxLDL) and How to Reduce It
I would like to tell my story about discovering I had very high Oxidized LDL (OxLDL) and how I am taking steps to reduce and reverse it.
First of all, I had read a book called The Great Cholesterol Myth, which educated me enough to get the right blood tests. Without these tests, your doctor may simply ignore OxLDL as mine did.
My doctor focused 100% on total cholesterol and I was 100% sure he was wrong. So I started doing my own extensive research on cholesterol, etc. I ordered the NMR LipidProfile test which drills down into the nitty-gritty past just total cholesterol numbers.
This is where I found out I had very high OxLDL and a rising Lipid Profile – Insulin Resistance (LP-IR) score as well.
For 3 years I struggled to find out the cause. You see, I had already changed my diet to eating mostly only grass-fed and finished red meat, only pasture-raised chicken and eggs, cut refined/processed carbs, and cut out those delicious rolls from Texas Roadhouse restaurant.
Yet, my oxLDL and LP-IR scores were still very high. To make a long story shorter, I ended up popping my daily eating habits into AI search engines and it found that my honey intake was what was causing it.
Yes, raw, unfiltered honey, which I thought was a good thing, was actually bad for me. I simply ate way too much of it. I would put 1 TBL of honey in my herbal tea nearly every night.
The red wine cabernet that I indulged on weekends also did not do me any favors there either.
I had no idea that both of these, honey and red cabernet wine, were both contributing to my chronically high oxLDL and insulin resistance. My doctor sure didn’t mention it because they don’t know about nutrition and they have no drug for these specific issues.
My doctor only wanted to prescribe statins because that is their drug to lower total cholesterol. Unfortunately, it lowers a lot of other things I need too, such as testosterone, CoQ-10, Vitamin K-2, and more. So I refused to take statins.
The fructose in honey was going straight to my liver, causing it to create fat and deposit it internally. This created the rising insulin-resistance.
The alcohol in the red wine was then attacking my already high small LDL-P levels and making them even more dense and numerous, locking me in a state of chronic high oxLDL.
With this revelation, about the wine and my beloved honey, the first thing I needed to do was cut these things completely by simply STOP eating them.
Then I worked on altered diet routine which I accidentally stumbled upon while researching these issues and looking at past blood work results.
It turns out that high quality polyphenols can help raise HDL levels and remove oxLDL from the blood, which is their job. Alcohol keeps HDLs from doing their job, by the way.
My go-to for high quality polyphenols started with Ultra High-Phenolic Extra Virgin Olive Oil (UHP-EVOO).
When I say “high quality”, it really needs to be “high quality”. You cannot use common EVOO from the supermarket. It will not work because they do not have the high quality polyphenols you need to reverse oxLDL.
This type of EVOO has well-researched components in it that reduces inflammation, provides a shield to protect LDL from oxidation, and removes oxLDL from the cells on a metabolic cellular level.
There are different types with differing amounts of these components depending on what you need it for. For me, I focused on advanced oxLDL efflux and protection, which is getting it out of the blood stream and protecting healthy LDL from becoming oxidized in the first place.
The best and rarest UHP-EVOO in the world, and yes, I tried a bottle, comes from Sparta Limited Edition Organic Medicinal White Label Wild Olive Oil or Sparta Extreme Limited Edition Green Label Wild Olive Oil. However, its high price is cost prohibitive for most people. I did say it is the “best in the world”.
Next, for those with less financial resources, I would recommend the PJ Kabos Family Reserve Phenolic Shot EVOO.
You do not heat or cook with these oils as they are better for “wellness shots” so as to preserve those precious polyphenols.
I stack these oils with supplements that strengthen what I am trying to do as far as oxLDL and insulin resistance.
I take capsules high in Hydroxytyrosol and Oleuropein, like Nessarit Olive Leaf & Olive Fruit.
Another strong, high quality supplement I take is Pomegranate Ultra High Potency 35:1 Extract Powder.
These are the things I am doing to combat high OxLDL and Insulin Resistance. I am not a doctor so, of course, you will need to consult your own physician for your particular needs and do your own research.
But I thought that atleast this will give you a good start at things to look at and research if you happen to have some of the same metabolic issues I have had.
Good Luck and Good Health!
